Jury Duty: Doing my civic duty

So the inevitable happened.  I got called in for Jury Duty.  Now, this is nothing new.  Somehow, I am always the one out of my family to get called every few years.  However, this was the first time I actually got selected to be on a jury.  It was for the Federal court so that meant I had to travel to downtown NYC almost every day for 3 weeks.

Two weeks.

That’s how long it took for Avery West’s ordinary life to change forever: In two weeks, she discovered she was heiress to a powerful secret society known as the Circle, learned her mother was taken hostage by the Circle’s enemies, and fell for a boy she’s not allowed to love, just as she found out another was her unwelcome destiny.

Now, Avery crosses oceans in private jets to hunt for clues that will uncover the truth about the Circle, setting her mom and herself free before it’s too late. By her side are both the boys: Jack—steady, loyal, and determined to help her even at the expense of his own duty—and Stellan, whose connection to Avery grows stronger by the day despite her best intentions, making her question what she believes at every turn.

But at the end of a desperate hunt from the islands of Greece to the red carpet at Cannes comes a discovery that not only changes everything, but could bring the whole world to its knees. And now Avery is forced to face the truth: in the world of the Circle, no one is what they seem.

Kill the beast. Win the girl.

A strange beast stirs fear in the kingdom of Lochlanach, terrorizing towns with its brutality and hunger. In an act of desperation, a proclamation is sent to all of Eurona—kill the creature and win the ultimate prize: the daughter of King Lochson’s hand in marriage.

Princess Aerity understands her duty to the kingdom though it pains her to imagine marrying a stranger. It would be foolish to set her sights on any particular man in the great hunt, but when a brooding local hunter, Paxton Seabolt, catches her attention, there’s no denying the unspoken lure between them…or his mysterious resentment.

Paxton is not keen on marriage. Nor does he care much for spoiled royals and their arcane laws. He’s determined to keep his focus on the task at hand—ridding the kingdom of the beast and protecting his family—yet Princess Aerity continues to challenge his notions with her unpredictability and charm. But as past secrets collide with present desires, dire choices threaten everything Paxton holds dear.

Inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ tale, “The Singing Bone,” New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins delivers a dark fantasy filled with rugged hunters, romantic tension, outlawed magic, and a princess willing to risk all to save her people.

February Wrap Up in Books

monthlybookwrapup

So I’m going to try and post one of these once a month.  There are usually more books that I read that I don’t end up reviewing on the blog, but still want to share with you and I thought this would be a quick and fun way to do that!  I know a lot of book bloggers out there usually do a Wrap Up plus a monthly TBR (To Be Read) pile, but I don’t like forcing myself to make a list of books that I HAVE to read–it just puts me off of reading them!  There will prob. be some months (usually when I’m crazy busy) that I won’t have read more, but they’re far and few between.  So hopefully this will be a new addition to the blog!
