Cristina Watches Game of Thrones – Season 1

So.  As you can probably ascertain from the title of this post, I finally get around to watching Game of Thrones.  I feel like I need to set this up correctly.  I had read the first book ages ago, before the TV show was even announced and enjoyed it.  I had always planned on watching it, but alas, I never had HBO and I couldn’t be bothered to figure out another way to watch it.  Well, I happened to get my hands on some HBO and thought “OK. It’s finally time.”

Now, I immediately had to text my two friends Joe and Antony (who will feature predominantly in these posts).  This is them:

I had the pleasure of working with these two fanatics the past two summers up at the Depot and they were always badgering me (especially this past summer) to watch it.  I (along with the rest of the house) know Joe is a VERY enthusiastic fan of the show…

I promised them this summer that when I finally got around to watching it, I would text them and let them know.  Since they have enjoyed my recounting of the episodes so much, I decided that you all might as well and I will be doing a series of posts based on our conversations. I warn you now, SPOILERS GALORE.  Also, I wasn’t exactly PG in my convos (cause the show def. isn’t) so if you’re affended easily, turn away now. Also these texts were over the course of a few days so if things seems a bit broken up that’s why.

So.  Here we go.

Sub Life: 2016-2017 School Year

As many of you know, I substitute teach.  It’s great because it’s flexible enough with my performance/writing schedule and I can always return to it if I’ve booked an out of town gig.  Now, subbing comes with its own share of headaches (as I’m sure some of you may be quite familiar with), but it definitely has some amusing antidotes–the kids especially.

I decided to keep a record of some of my favorites this year for your enjoyment. Since it’s the last day of school here in NYC ( I KNOW.  Ridiculously late), I thought I’d share them all with you.

Hey 2017, get it together!

I got a phone call from the bro a few months ago.

“Oh my God, Cristina.”
“What?? What happened?”
“I just had the worst class I’ve ever had in all my years of subbing/teaching.”

And it was the worst class.  It was fifth grade and they were off the wall.  You know when you’re warned from the secretary that morning that it’s not going to be good.  We’re not talking just some snarky behavioral issues (but there was plenty of that as well).  We’re talking throwing things, cursing at the teacher, gluing and cutting things you shouldn’t be gluing and cutting like, I dunno, your HANDS.

He then told me he had a student teacher with him that was, sorry to say, completely useless.  All that teacher would say when a student did something abhorrent was “Get it together!”

Cause that’s really going to work when you have kids standing on tables and running out of the classroom.

A Much Needed Update

I know this post is way past long overdue.  Is there a specific term for this? Overdue in the sense of way past modern time as we know it? I mean, my last post was October 7, 2016!! So embarrassing.

Crooked Kingdom Launch Party!

I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Crooked Kingdom’s launch party with Leight Bardugo and Jesse the Reader at The Strand.  It was a crazy night filled with lines, friends, and cookies.

I arrive relatively early to get on line because I KNEW it was going to be crazy town.  I meet up with my friend Jenn and later with Christina and Emma.

Remember Me?

I’m that girl who runs this blog.  I know. You thought I fell of the face of the planet.  I can tell you that I’m still hanging on.  August was just one CRAZY month and I barely had time to breathe let alone catch up on any blogging.

I promise that September I will try and do better.  No really! I’m going to give you a brief overview of what these past few weeks have been like.

A Very Patriotic 4th of July

I know this post is rather late, I’ve been a little busy doing a show and all…Ok, I’ll be honest.  Part of the time I was doing a show and the other I was trying not to drown in my own sweat during a horrendous heat wave–with NO AC.  The thought of turning on my computer to blog was just torturous.  I laid in bed trying not to move, convinced that would make me sweat less.  Not true.  Now that it’s somewhat bearable I thought I’d catch up on some fun adventures the cast and I have been on for our days off! First being Fort Ticonderoga on the 4th of July!

I mean can you get more patriotic then visiting Fort Ticonderoga on the 4th of July?  Possibly–if you’re in Phili or Williamsburg or something, but hey, this also had reenactors so I’m totally putting it on the same level.  We took two cars and Sarah and Missy had decided to stop at a cute country store on the way there.

“We’re ten minutes away!”
50 minutest later we find Joe waiting like this when they finally arrive:
