From Austin to Boston – Part 3

Our last few days in Boston were bittersweet.  We were having such a wonderful time that we didn’t want to leave!

Our second to last day was spent idling about Boston; doing some more shopping and enjoying the quaint streets.

From Austin to Boston – Part 2

Continuing our adventures, I awoke after a horrible night of sickness feeling perfectly fine.  We decided to take it a bit easier that day to play it safe and see how I felt later on that evening.

We walked over to the Italian district.  That’s one thing we loved about Boston–it’s such a great walking city.  Everything is so near one another.  Once we parked the car the day we arrived, we didn’t touch it again until the day we left.

We debated buying this shirt, but opted for a picture instead.

From Austin to Boston – Part 1

So my friend, Meesh, and I had planned on going to Austin, TX for New Years.  When that didn’t pan out we decided to reroute to Boston.  I know what you’re thinking, “But it’s so COLD in Boston!”  We actually lucked out! We had such warm weather that some days with my coat, I was too warm.

We had an absolutely fantastic time, minus a few hiccups, but I’ll get to those.

Of course, you all know mine and Meesh’s talent for overpacking. What made you think this trip would be any different? #wewereonlythere5days

Cruisin’ Around: FINAL POST!

Sorry this last post took so long to put up! I guess I was in denial and didn’t want the vacation to finally end via my blog posts…Oh well, until the next one I guess!

Our final stop was Nassau in the Bahamas.

To be honest (and I know I’ll probably get some slack from this), it’s not my favorite Caribbean destination.  I mean, most of it is dominated by Atlantis, I find the water to be a bit rougher than other islands I’ve been to, and it just feels a little more touristy if that’s even possible.  It’s still beautiful, but just not my favorite, hence the lack of pictures.

We ended up going to one of the really busy public beaches (it was a bit dirty to be honest).  We didn’t have any interest in paying the exorbitant fee to enter Atlantis for the day.  Overall, we only spent a half day there anyway so essentially we went to the beach, cooled off in the water (with the exhaust of water jetski’s in our faces as their owners got ridiculously close to people swimming to hassle them to rent it for an hour), then headed back to the boat to catch the beautiful sunset on our last night on board.

If you’ve never been to St. Thomas or if you’ve never been to Megan’s Bay in St. Thomas then you are missing out on an amazing place.  No joke, I think we look for cruises that specifically go to St. Thomas because of Megan’s Bay.  It’s been listed as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches and I can see why.

Antigua is beautiful.  I’ve never had the pleasure of going there before so this was a totally new experience for me.  We get off the boat and grab a cab to the beach.  The cab ride was awesome.  Our driver, Anthony (pronounced AnTony), essentially gave us a tour of the island and would regale us with stories and life antidotes such as “Don’t worry! Be Happy!”  He also taught us some dialect (which I wasn’t very good at), but he made the trip there and back so enjoyable! If you happen to stop in Antigua and are in need of a cab, ask for Anthony.  He’ll make your trip the destination!

After Anthony dropped us off at the beach we proceeded to lounge and do nothing except go in the water (which was magnificent) and catch up on our reading.

We arrived in St. Maarten to a glorious day.  We’ve been here before on previous cruises and while everybody tells you to go to the French side of the Island, we prefer the Dutch side (half is French, the other Dutch).  The beach is fantastic and the shopping area in downtown St. Maarten is small, bustling, and filled with all sorts of shops and restaurants.

We caught the jetty boat to the beach early that morning and promptly set up shop, grabbing some lawn chairs and umbrellas.  Then spent the majority of the day taking in some sun and swimming in that crystal clear, blue ocean.

After a lovely drive down, we finally arrived to Ft. Lauderdale where our cruise was departing.  Since Miami wasn’t too far, we decided to stop there for dinner.  Miami is always an adventure consisting of partying in the streets and stripper heels.

Cruisin’ Around: The Drive Down – Charleston, SC

My love affair with this city will never end.  Like for realz.  If I ever get rich and wanted to buy a summer home, I would get one in Charleston.  I absolutely love the vibe of this city and it’s a must-stop whenever I head down south.

You can stroll downtown Charleston and see the most colorful and extravagant houses.  It has a small town feel while still being a major metropolis.

Cruisin’ Around: The Drive Down – Washington, DC

Most people tend to take vacations after a hectic period in their lives; a time to unwind, relax, and recharge again.  This time around, I decided to be different.  I went on a lovely vacation with my family before the hectic-ness that will await me this fall.  What can I say? I like being different.

We drove down to Florida–gasp! That tends to be the reaction I get every time I tell them, but you know what? For every Florida vacation I’ve taken in my life, I’ve always driven down.  Frankly, I enjoy it a lot more because you get to stop along the way and see some of the beautiful cities and hidden gems that the East Coast is home to.

Our first stop was Washington, D.C.  Now when I say, I’ve practically seen everything in DC over the years, I mean it.  We ended up staying away from the Mall and went to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.  We had never been and Dad has been itching to go for awhile now.
