The (Wo)Man on the Flying Trapeze

I did it (barely).  Another thing crossed off the bucket list!

I took a Trapeze Lesson at the NY Trapeze School and even though it was hard as fudgsicles, it was an awesomely fun time!  My friend Christie works there and has been trying to get me to go for ages.  I’m so glad I finally did!  Like I said though, it was HARD.  My arms still felt it a few days later…and my abs.  Getting on the bar was the hardest part.  At one point I got all tangled up in the wire.  Dallas, one of the instructors, did a great impression of me as I was flailing around like a drowned cat trying to get untangled.  Needless to say, I did manage to get some entertaining shots for you all.  Proof is below.

Here I am just about to jump off:

My face ladies and gentlemen.  My FACE.

Here’s another.  Just sheer terror.

Here was Dallas trying to give me some instructions.

The most I could do was just hang there.

I did finally smile though at some point!

Eventually though, I managed to redeem myself after a gazillion few tries and finally make it on the bar.  And look! I’m actually smiling!

We learned two tricks that day (besides actually getting on the bar).  One was a flip, which I actually was able to do!

The other was a catch.

The scariest part (besides climbing the ladder) was when Travis let go of you with a friendly “Goodbye!”

Even though I don’t see the Trapeze as a viable career choice for me in the near future I had an absolute blast!  If you have the opportunity, go take a class! Everybody at the NY Trapeze School is super friendly, helpful, and just awesome.  It’s an experince you won’t forget.

Word advice though, make sure you smile and don’t make faces where you look like you’re going to die.

Just something to keep in mind.
