An International Get-together

Did you know I had cousins from England?  Neither did I until I went to study in London.  I was very fortunate to get to know my cousin Dan and his wonderful family while I was studying there.

Here I am with Dan’s boys, Harry and Charlie, in front of the big fireplace at Hampstead Heath.

One Year Ago Today

One year ago today, Robby and I finished the first draft of On the Air.  It’s hard to believe it’s only been a year since we started this. So much has happened. Honestly if you told me a year ago we’d be where we are now, I would have thought you were crazy.

Actually I thought we were crazy for embarking on this journey.

New Headshots

I’m so excited to share our new headshots with you!

With On the Air picking up and some cabaret opportunities on the horizon, we knew we needed some new headshots as a singer/songwriter team.  We’re in the process of setting up a new website (which you will see in due time!), so we needed some shots for that as well.

We called Beth Capuano again who had done such a great job with our old headshots.  She’s truly fantastic to work with and at a fraction of the cost if you were to go into the city.  Check ’em out!

“Skinny” Mashed Potatoes

I’m a late arriver to the skinny mashed potatoes train.  I wish I had jumped aboard sooner! They are delicious!

For those of you wondering how mashed potatoes can be skinny, well let me fill you in on the not so secret substitution–cauliflower.

Say what?

Yep, you heard me.  Instead of using actual potatoes, sub them for cauliflower.

Mini College Reunion

College is a fantastic time in a young person’s life.  You get to “find” yourself, most likely live away from home for the first time, and meet some awesome friends along the way.

Not to mention graduate with some great stories… 😉

It’s hard after you graduate to stay in touch.  People move, start families, work takes over; I’m extremely lucky that I still see and speak with a lot of my friends from college.  We all live relatively near one another and if not, are at least up to date with what’s going on in each others lives (lets face it, we’re nosy like that).

I graduated a semester early and that last semester I student taught from home so really, I only had 3 years on campus.  My last year on campus, I lived in the newly built “Pods”.  It was a suite of four rooms with two bathrooms.

8 girls living together in close quarters.  It was awesome and crazy at the same time.

Some of the best memories from college are from the year I lived in the Pod.

This was us the second night of our junior year.  🙂

Musical Theatre Festivals

Ahhh, it’s that time of year again! I can smell it in the air; the mad dash to finish a song, finalizing last minute scene changes, the sweat, the tears, the shear panic–all ending in shear exhaustion and jubilation that you got everything in on time.

It’s Festival submission season for new writers.  For those of you unfamiliar with this tear-inducing season, it’s when many Theatre and Musical Theatre festivals open submissions for new works.  This is a prime opportunity for new writers to get your shows out there.  It’s also a great opportunity to get your works finished because–hello–deadlines!

The new novel from the bestselling author of You Had Me At Hello. What if the last person you wanted to see was the person you needed? After the runaway success of You Had Me At Hello, Mhairi McFarlane is back with a new cast of characters in her second book, Here’s Looking At You. In essence it’s an ugly duckling tale. Our heroine Aureliana returns to school after fifteen years for a reunion. School doesn’t hold happy memories for her, as being a roly poly Italian (known as the Italian Galleon), and always armed with a Tupperware full of pungent Mediterranean food, she was bullied incessantly throughout her years there. Now in her 30s, Aureliana wants to put the past behind her once and for all and face up to the bullies who made her life hell. But she is much-changed from the girl she once was – all curves and because I’m worth it hair – and no one recognises her when she arrives. Losing her bottle, she backs out on her plan for revenge and slinks off, hoping never to be reminded of her years at school again. But fate gets in the way, and after the reunion her path keeps crossing with James – major hunk and Aureliana’s major crush back at school. But alas, as a cronie to the bullies, Aureliana to this day believes that his beautiful exterior hides an ugly interior. As they continue to cross paths a love/hate relationship ensues until eventually something shifts, and they both start to discover what the person underneath is really like…Full of Mhairi’s trademark laugh out loud humour, Here’s Looking At You is a novel about facing your demons and being happy with who you really are.
