So today begins tech week for On the Air. I was up at 6:40am this morning. Don’t ask me why. It’s ungodly. Especially since I have to be at tech from 6-11pm this evening.
For those of you non-actor folks, tech week is the week leading up to opening when all the technical elements of the show are brought in (lights, sound, costumes, etc.), essentially making the show a “show”. It’s a lot of waiting and standing around in one spot, skipping over lines, trying to time changes, and remembering where the hell you’re supposed to be.
To give you a better idea of what it’s really like, I thought I’d break it down for you.
In gifs.
- Excited and ready to begin. You got this.

- Hurry the hell up!

- Oh, you’re not ready yet.

- Standing there inputting lighting cues. DON’T MOVE.

- My feet hurt. Can I sit? No? Damn.

- Is it dinner yet?

- Ok. This is boring now.

- Wait what’s next??

- NOW can we eat?!

- I just want to go home and sleep.

- Wait. Are we done?

- Time for notes!

- We’re done!!

- On the train ride home.

- Finally home.

- OMG. We open in a day.

And there you have it. Wish me luck!

Good luck – tech week is a hella lot of hard work but worth it when you open!
