A College Cabaret

I went to see my friend Amy’s Cabaret show, Once In Love, at 54 Below.

People, she was amazing.  Not that I was surprised.

Amy and I went to college together and she was my Big Sister in the theatre fraternity we had on Campus.  People always thought we were twins and we’ve both been dying to be in a production of Side Show for years.

Having your cabaret at 54 Below is a pretty big deal.  I mean, right before Amy’s show was Jane Lynch’s show.  Obviously, Jane Lynch was Amy’s opening act.  That’s how awesome my Big is.

It begins with absence and desire.
It begins with blood and fear.
It begins with a discovery of witches.

When historian Diana Bishop opens a bewitched alchemical manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library it represents an unwelcome intrusion of magic into her carefully ordinary life. Though descended from a long line of witches, she is determined to remain untouched by her family’s legacy. She banishes the manuscript to the stacks, but Diana finds it impossible to hold the world of magic at bay any longer.

For witches are not the only otherworldly creatures living alongside humans. There are also creative, destructive daemons and long-lived vampires who become interested in the witch’s discovery. They believe that the manuscript contains important clues about the past and the future, and want to know how Diana Bishop has been able to get her hands on the elusive volume.

Chief among the creatures who gather around Diana is vampire Matthew Clairmont, a geneticist with a passion for Darwin. Together, Diana and Matthew embark on a journey to understand the manuscript’s secrets. But the relationship that develops between the ages-old vampire and the spellbound witch threatens to unravel the fragile peace that has long existed between creatures and humans—and will certainly transform Diana’s world as well.

A Girls Day in Montclair

Sometimes you just need a girls day.

A day to just relax, eat, shop and do nothing but talk.  I’m so lucky I have two girlfriends who I can do that with.  I know I can call them anytime–day or night–and tell them anything.

Julie (aka Jules), Michele (aka Meesh) and I all went to college together.  (Oh the fun times!) One fact I learned after you graduate is it’s hard to stay in touch with a lot of your friends.  You move away, lose touch, join the circus…

Luckily with these two those things are not an issue. We try to get to get together every month or so to catch up on our lives.

We decided to meet up in Montclair for some good food, shopping, and chit chat.

Happy Father’s Day

My Dad’s a pretty cool cat, if I say so myself.

He’s Italian so he likes to cook, he can pretty much fix anything, he’s great at Math, and when I was growing up his job was to dress up like this:

Welcome

“We are such stuff / As dreams are made on; and our little life / Is rounded with a sleep.”

The Tempest, I.IV.

This past year has been thrilling and I have a feeling this upcoming year will be even more exciting.  I’ll be sharing book reviews, recipes, the craziness that is my life, and of course the journey that my brother, Robby, and I are taking in the development of our musical, On the Air.

You’re welcome to come along, if you’d like.  Who knows what might happen?
